Speed and a quick health check
A mouse click test answers two questions. How fast can you click, and is the button doing its job? The test on this page is built for the first question, and it also gives you a quick read on the second.
Your first left click inside the box starts a five second timer. Every left click or tap counts, while right clicks are ignored. The display shows the time left, your clicks and your live CPS. When time is up you see your clicks per second to one decimal, a rating, your click count and your personal best. With normal clicking, most people manage about 6 to 8 CPS.
What your score says about your mouse
Your score mostly reflects your finger, but the mouse plays a part. If you know your usual score and it suddenly drops, check the hardware before you blame yourself. A button that misses presses drags the number down. A button that sometimes sends two clicks for one press pushes it up in a way that does not match your effort.
Try a slow count. Click ten times at an easy pace and see whether the click counter reads 10. Repeat it a few times. An occasional mismatch is a warning sign.
Better tools for button problems
When something seems wrong, switch to a tool built for diagnosis:
| Problem | Where to check |
|---|---|
| A button seems dead or misses presses | Mouse test, which counts left, middle, right, back and forward presses |
| Unwanted double clicks | Double click test, which flags left clicks less than 80 ms apart |
| Scroll wheel skipping | The mouse test, which counts scroll up, down and sideways |
Clicking techniques and wear
Normal clicking is what a mouse switch is built for. Faster techniques such as jitter, butterfly and drag clicking add wear to the switches, and a worn switch can lead to unwanted double clicks. If you use those techniques a lot, check your mouse now and then.
Keep your setup the same
Use the same mouse, the same surface and the same posture each time, so that changes in your score reflect you and not your setup. Your scores are saved in this browser, and the Your scores panel shows your best, average, attempts and a trend chart. If your trend suddenly dips while you feel as quick as ever, run the slow count again.
