Free practice with nothing to set up
Open the page and press Start test. You do not sign up, hand over an email address or install anything. A passage of about 55 words appears, and every run ends with the full result: your score, raw WPM and accuracy. There is no cap on runs, so you can practice for as long as it is useful and come back as often as you like.
Your history lives in this browser
With no account, your results have to live somewhere else, and that place is the browser on your device. Each finished run is added to the Your scores panel, which shows your best, your average, the number of attempts and a chart of recent runs. That works well for daily practice, as long as you keep a few things in mind.
- Stick to one device and browser. Runs on your phone and runs on your laptop build separate histories.
- Avoid private windows for practice. A private window usually forgets its data when you close it.
- Watch out on shared computers. Everyone using the same browser adds to the same history. Clear history resets it.
- Clearing browser data clears your scores. There is no copy anywhere else.
Make it a daily habit
Free practice only helps if you actually do it. The easiest way is to tie it to something you already do every day: before you open your email in the morning, or straight after lunch. Do three runs, no more. You do not need to write anything down, because the panel records every result for you.
Once a week, look at the chart in Your scores. Ignore single runs that stand out up or down. If the line is creeping upward, keep the routine. If it is flat for a few weeks, change what you practice rather than practicing longer.
Change the drill when you plateau
The other practice modes on the site are free too, and each keeps its own separate history. Fast typing practice uses random common words to push your speed, and typing practice paragraphs runs about 160 words to build stamina. Your results from the other tests on the site are collected on the dashboard.
