Free to play, nothing to install
This typing game costs nothing and asks for nothing. There is no account to create, no email to confirm and no app to download. Open the page, press Start race, and you are typing within a few seconds. When you are done, close the tab. There is nothing to cancel and nothing left behind.
The race does not save your results, so there is no profile building up in the background. Each run stands on its own.
What you get in each race
Every free race gives you the full game, not a trial version:
- A 3, 2, 1 countdown so you can get your hands ready
- Four lanes: your car plus three computer cars at 25, 40 and 55 WPM
- One passage of about 55 words, with each letter marked as you type it
- A car that moves with every correct letter and stops on a mistake until you fix it
- A result showing your place, words per minute and accuracy
- A Race again button that loads a new passage
That is the whole game. It is small on purpose, so it loads quickly and you can play as often as you like.
What the free game does not include
It helps to know the limits before you start. There are no lessons, no leaderboards and no saved history. You race computer cars, not other people online. If you want those cars to be slower or quicker, two other free versions exist: a kids race with very slow opponents and a fast race with cars up to 90 WPM, both linked from the typing games page.
Getting more out of free practice
A free game is only useful if you come back to it. Try a few races at the same time each day rather than one long session now and then. Note your place and WPM on paper, since the race forgets them.
When you want structured drills instead of a race, the typing practice page is free too. For a score that is saved in your browser and adjusted for accuracy, take the typing test.
